We need help!
Our household consists of my husband Craig, myself, our male cat (Mike Jones), and our 20 year old daughter Sara. Sara has had a female Border Collie (Fly) for 11 yrs, and now has an 8 month old female Alaskan Malamute (Mya). I can't tell you how much I am enjoying this dog. I've always had German Shepherds in the past, and the difference in the breeds is amazing. I'm used to dogs that MIND, and Mya does NOT do that, however she USUALLY wants to be a good dog...;-) Mya loves the cat, Craig, Sara, and me. However she keeps attacking old Fly (the female Border Collie). We had been told that they would get a long if she grew up with the other female dog, but that is not the case. I do not believe she is trying to kill her since I'm sure she could if she wanted to, it's probably a dominant thing, but it is bad and we don't know what to do. Questions...would Mya stop if we had her spayed? We were thinking about letting her have one (and only one) litter of pups because when SAra moves out we are going to have a custody fight over this dog...Mya and I are really close, she is constantly with me, we have our routine going, and I'm hoping Sara will let me keep Mya and take a puppy. Should I get some sort of shock collar and shock her when she goes after Fly? Someone suggested that, but will that change her personality because she is perfect the way she is, other than the Fly thing. Should I let them fight it out and not pull them apart? Will Mya eventually stop or will she keep fighting? Thanks for any help, Debbie |
